Summer Camp Here I Come….

This weekend I am off to an American style Summer Camp with my two lovely Instagram friends Liz (lizbotr_style) and Alex (alex_bettertogether). It is run by the company WeWerk and it is a three day event taking place in a large park, just outside of Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I am not sure what to expect but having  checked out the website they certainly have a lot on offer.

The idea behind this Summer Camp is to switch off from gadgets for a weekend and enjoy connecting with actual real life people. The cost of the ticket includes return coach travel from London,  all entertainment &activities, camping accommodation and food & drink (including alcohol) all weekend.

Saturday Night is party night with Florence and the Machines headlining on the main stage. But the rest of the weekend is likely to be filled with yoga at dawn, water trampolining, basket making, cocktail masterclasses, roller disco and a whole host of other interesting activities. There will also be a little drinking, dancing and socialising around a rather large camp fire before heading back to our Yurt to sleep.
We are all very excited and I’m sure we will thoroughly enjoy the experience but one thing we do have to contend with is the British weather. And lets face it so far this August it we haven’t exactly been basking in sunshine. I have been watching the forecast for next weekend and at the moment it is looking mixed. “Quelle Surprise”. This does not help my packing situation. I am travelling to London by train to meet Alex before we jump on the free coach to the venue. We are limited to two pieces of hand luggage, which also has to carry my airbed, sleeping bag and pillow. Yes I am taking a pillow. I am nearly 47 years old and the last time I went camping I was 10. It wasn’t an experience I ever wanted to repeat. But hey ho I don’t shy away from a challenge, Plus I figured after an evening of alcohol I may not notice that I am basically sleeping on the floor in a vintage sleeping bag (as in vintage I mean my husbands sleeping bag that he has had since the 1970’s).

So that doesn’t leave much room for clothes. Which would be fine if the weatherman could guarantee me a full weekend of sunshine & temperature of around 25 degrees. But anyone who holidays in the UK in Summer knows that you have to pack with the expectation of rain.

This is what I am packing for each day:

We leave at midday on Sunday so my outfit on the last day will be thrown together from whatever is clean and dry.

I am sure that we will have a fabulous time and for the most part we are switching off phones and having a break from social media for the weekend. But I am sure we will manage to sneak a few photos onto one of our Instagram accounts over the course of our stay.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for reading.
